Friday evening turned out to be the last curtain to fall on the infamous Akasha family as the last of the Akasha brothers received a 23 year jail sentence in a New York court.

Ibrahim Akasha, 31, displayed no visible sense of emotional remorse as Judge  Victor Marrero delivered the sentence at a Manhattan federal court.

Ibrahim Akasha had earlier pleaded guilty to trafficking heroin and methamphetamine and other crimes.

The prosecution had argued that Akasha had been a top lieutenant to his brother Baktash Akasha, the Akasha organization’s former leader, who was sentenced to 25 years in prison last August.

Ibrahim Akasha’s attorney, Dawn Cardi, had however argued that Ibrahim’s role was subordinate to that of his elder brother. Against that argument, the attorney had sought a ten year jail sentence for Ibrahim.

At some point, Ibrahim managed an apology stating that “I would like to take the time to apologize to the families who were destroyed due to my dealings in drugs,”.

Ibrahim and his brother, Baktash, had in 2018 pleaded guilty to various drug related charges. They were accused of  conspiring to import and importing heroin and methamphetamine, conspiring to use and carry machine guns and destructive devices in connection with their drug-trafficking crimes.

They also faced charges of obstructing justice by paying bribes to Kenyan officials in an effort to avoid being extradited to the United States.
