Jubilee women MPs have condemned the way senators were removed from office in the Parliamentary Group Meeting on Monday. Moreover, they expressed anger at how Jubilee Chief Whip Susan Kihika was replaced with a man. They felt that women were not respected and were looked down upon for being women.
In a press statement, the women denounced the manner in which Jubilee secretary-general Raphael Tuju selectively issued out letters to Jubilee women senators who had skipped the meeting.
“As party members and women leaders of jubilee party, we want to express solidarity with Senator Susan Kihika and all nominated jubilee senators who have been served with letters to show cause by the party’s secretary-general. We reject and denounce the manner in which our party’s secretary-general has selectively issued letters to Jubilee women Nominate senators, who allegedly did not attend a parliamentary group meeting called at the statehouse,” part of the statement reads.

According to the statement, the Jubilee secretary-general did not follow the rules of the political parties act and the constitution while executing his duties. The women were very vocal in reprimanding their party for issuing out threats to jubilee women members.
“Why would our party PG purport to remove a woman Chief Whip and replace with a male Chief Whip? What does this say about the treatment of women by our party? We are calling our party to immediately stop the threats to our female members. They have worked so hard under difficult circumstances to build the party,” the statement says.
On Monday, Jubilee Majority Leader Kipchumba Murkomen and Chief Whip Susan Kihika were ousted. They were replaced by Samuel Poghisio and Irungu Kang’ata respectively. Jubilee women felt it was against their rights. Consequently, they voiced their concerns on the matter.
