Emirates will resume passenger flights amid the pandemic

Emirates will begin offering passenger flights to nine destinations from May 21st. The nine destinations are Paris, Milan, Madrid, Chicago, Toronto, Sidney, Melbourne, London Heathrow and Frankfurt. Moreover, the airline has put in place measures to protect people from the pandemic.

The chief operating officer Adel Al Redha said they are planning to add more destinations in the near future.

“We are working closely to plan the resumption of operations to additional destinations. We have implemented additional measures at the airport in coordination with the relevant authorities in respect to social distancing and sanitization,” he said.

The Emirates is also working closely with embassies and consulates to facilitate repatriation flights for visitors and residents who want to return home. The airline plans to operate flights from Dubai to Tokyo Narita (15th May), Conakry (16th May) and Dakar (16th May).

Precautionary Measures

Emirates airline has already enhanced precautionary measures throughout the customer journey in preparation for the resumption of flights. At Dubai International Airport, the travellers and employees will have their temperatures checked with a thermal scanners. All customers and employees must wear masks at the airport. In addition, Emirates cabin crew and ground staff who directly interact with the travellers must wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).

“To minimize interaction in airplanes, Emirates will offer a modified in-flight service that focuses on reducing contact and infection risk. Magazines and print reading material will not be available during this time. Customers can only bring essential items such as a laptop, handbag, briefcase or baby items on board,” reads a statement from Emirates.

Emirates aircrafts have been fitted with advanced air filters which remove 99.97% of viruses, dust and germs from cabin air. When each plane lands, it will go through enhanced cleaning and disinfection processes to ensure safety and proper sanitation.
