Women and girls will benefit from continued maternal care, EU Ambassador to Kenya Simon Mordue said on Friday.

This followed a virtual meeting between EU ambassadors with Central Bank Governor Patrick Njoroge on Thursday.

According to Ambassador Mordue, the meeting discussed the impact of Covid-19 on Kenyan finances and the economy, and how the EU support to Kenya can help mitigate the impact.

The EU has intensified its support to Kenya, especially during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Earlier in April, the EU gave €300 million support to Kenya is what Ambassador Mordue described as “Europe’s statement of friendship and partnership in these difficult times”.

Mordue said the support was part of an overall Sh1.75 trillion (€15 billion) package that the EU mobilised on April 6 to help its partners in developing countries to face a virus that affects us all.

“And this is only the start, because the EU and its member states will be providing additional support to Kenya in the coming weeks and months. The EU is speeding up its approval procedures to deliver on the full package. It has already provided the first tranche of humanitarian aid at the beginning of this month,” the envoy said on April 28 in an opinion article in the Daily Nation.
