Kibra’s MP seat fell vacant following the death of its former MP Ken Okoth. Okoth succumbed to colorectal cancer in July.

Profiled as the hotbed of ODM parliamentary politics, the race to succeed Okoth is coming up as a contest between Kenya’s leading political party.

Musalia Mudavadi’s Amani National Congress party has already cleared Eliud Owalo as its flagbearer while Moses Wetangula declared that Ford Kenya will also join the contest.

McDonald Mariga, an international football player joins the race running on his fame and popularity brought by his achievements in the global sports arena.

The Jubilee party, through SG Raphael Tuju, had earlier refuted claims that Mariga was interested in the Jubilee party nomination.
