Former Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka has said Kenya’s deployment to Haiti is hurting Raila Odinga’s campaign for the African Union Commission Chairperson.
Speaking during the launch of DAP-K party headquarters in Nairobi on Monday, Kalonzo, who served twice as Foreign Affairs Minister, said Kenya’s involvement in the Multinational Security Support (MSS) mission was becoming a hinderance to gaining support from African leaders.
“We keep saying we are against the Haiti mission. If there is one thing that is frustrating Raila in the AUC election, it is this thing about Haiti. He is being asked by other African leaders how an African country go and kill Blacks in a faraway country?” Kalonzo said.
Agreeing with Mumias East MP Peter Salasya, Kalonzo noted that Raila is a candidate for the Kenyan government and they will help him and pray for him to get the seat.
In his remarks, Salasya had said he was praying that Raila gets the AUC chairmanship seat “so he doesn’t come and confuse us” in the 2027 General Election.

RAILA’S BID
Raila has in the recent past intensified his campaign for the election that is slated for February during the Heads of State and Government Summit on February 12-16.
The former Prime Minister has covered East Africa, West Africa, Southern Africa and North Africa.
However, his nomination and endorsement by President William Ruto has received negative reception among a section of Kenyans to the chagrin of the head of state and the Kenya Kwanza Administration.
Kenya in a deal with the US agreed to lead the MSS mission in Haiti and deployed the first batch of 400 officers to Haiti in June last year.
Another group of 217 Kenyan police officers arrived in Haiti in January to join the UN-backed mission to tackle gang violence and restore stability in the country.
