The axe that is causing panic and distress at the “Twin Towers” has landed on NTV news anchor and Side Bar political show host Ken Mijungu.

Mijungu who joined the media house in 2013 made the announcement on Friday via Twitter.

“The axe fell @NTVnewsroom and I was on its way. 7 years in those corridors summed up in a two page letter of termination. We live to fight another day. Thanks to God, He remains the greatest, thank you @ntvkenya for the opportunity and thank you for always staying tuned,” Mijungu tweeted.

This comes just a day after the media house fired at least 40 senior editors and journalists in the print section of the media group – Daily Nation, Business Daily and the EastAfrican.

This is part of the NMG “restructuring” amidst the negative economic effects of Covid-19 and market shifts.

In a cautionary statement on May 22, NMG’s board of directors said profit for 2020 financial year would drop by at least 25 per cent.

The company is reportedly now looking at monetizing its digital platforms chief among them introducing subscription for its online content and selling advertising on the digital paper.

Just late last month Mediamax fired over 100 journalists, almost cleaning its K24 TV’s editorial tea, after a salary tussle, having also firing 160 in 2019.

Radio Africa also fired a considerable number in January owing to a drop in advertising revenue, digital disruption, now made worse by Covid-19 pandemic.
