Health CS Kagwe has ordered all truck drivers to be tested for covid-19 2 days before their journey.
They must acquire free covid-19 certificates which they will use at the borders before being allowed to pass through.
“All truck drivers will take a covid-19 test at least 48 hours before embarking on their journey and acquire a covid-19 free certificate. We have noted that majority of the truck drivers are commencing their journey in the border without valid documents, expecting to be tested at the border points,” said CS Kagwe.
Currently, Busia has 26 cases. All the 26 cases are truck drivers who were tested at the Busia border.
CS said the testing of truck drivers at the border points not only causes congestion, it also increases chances of spreading covid-19 during interaction.
“This has resulted to unnecessary congestion and delays that have been witnessed at our border points. This is pure indiscipline which is unacceptable. It will not be tolerated,” he said.
“I’m urging our law enforcement officers to take appropriate action against each truck driver flouting these measures,”
