After more than one year, the government of Kenya has finally obeyed court orders to allow self-declared NRM general Dr Miguna Miguna into the country.
In a press statement on Monday, the Directorate of Immigration Services said it has been informed of Dr. Miguna’s return into the country on Tuesday, January 7, 2019.
“This is to confirm that in compliance with the court orders issued on December 14, 2018, the Directorate will facilitate Dr. Miguna’s entry into Kenya,” Director General Alexander Muteshi said in the statement.
But in his response, Miguna urged his supporters to ignore the statement.
“Patriots, ignore the statement by Alexander Muteshi. It is their inept damage control after the High Court ORDERS today. Let the rogues comply with ALL the Court Orders issued today and the numerous ones issued in 2018. A good start would be their delivery of my Kenyan Passport,” he tweeted.
Miguna, a lawyer by profession, was deported for the second time deported in March 2018 despite a court order directing the government to release him from detention at JKIA.
High Court Judge George Odunga had ordered Interior CS Fred Matiang’i, then Immigration Director Gordon Kihalang’wa and then Inspector General of Police Joseph Boinnet to release the lawyer from detention at JKIA, an order they defied.
The High Court awarded lawyer Miguna Miguna Sh7 million as compensation for the violation of his rights during his deportation to Canada.
Judge Enoch Chacha Mwita said Miguna’s deportation was unlawful and in violation of the Constitution.
President Uhuru Kenyatta hinted that lawyer Miguna Miguna could be allowed back into the country without the drama during the funeral service of Charles Rubia.
The President said freedom of expression was everyone’s right.
“I have heard that some people are now planning to fly into the country. Let them come because that is their freedom,” President Kenyatta said.
The Immigration Directorate came shortly after the court ordered the government to facilitate Miguna’s entry into Kenya on Tuesday.
