NAIROBI – Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua on Monday met the Vice President of the Sudan Transitional Sovereignty Council General Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo at Harambee House Annex Office in Nairobi.
DP Rigathi said they discussed bilateral relations between the two states in a bid to increase the volume of trade and grow businesses of the two nations.
“Kenya and Sudan have had long standing cordial relations in history. The two nations have much to share in terms of culture and heritage, among others,”Rigathi’s office said in a statement after the meeting.
The DP added that peace in the region was discussed.
VP Dagalo, who was accompanied by Sudan Ambassador to Kenya Kumar Gubara Mohamed Salim, visited the country days after President William Ruto and Sudan transitional leader Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan agreed to hold a special IGAD Summit on South Sudan before the end of this month.
The summit, President Ruto said, will assess the status of implementation of the peace agreement, which is officially referred as Revitalised Agreement on the Resolution of the Conflict in the Republic of South Sudan, and address any emerging issues.
And even as the Sudan military leader announced that the army will come under civilian authority, as part of a deal brokered in December, VP Dagalo congratulated President Ruto on his election in the August 2022 polls.
He applauded Kenyans for upholding peace before, during, and after the elections.
