Foreign Affairs CAS calls for cooperation in ICGLR to address Covid-19 impact on youth

Foreign Affairs CAS Ababu Namwamba has called on the ICGLR member states to work together to find solutions for the common challenges in the region.

Speaking during the opening of the International Conference on the Great Lakes Region Regional Youth Forum, Ababu also called for cooperation to address the negative Covid- 19 impact on the youth and, and the likely ramifications on the fragile peace and stability in the region.

The CAS opened the event virtually. The meeting will discuss the status of implementation of the pact on Security, Stability and Development in the Great Lakes Region.

Also speaking at the event, UNDP policy adviser for Africa Alessandra Casazza committed to sustainable support through peace building, regional action plans and act upon recommendations in peace and security.

ICGLR is an inter-governmental organisation of the countries in the African Great Lakes Region.

It seeks to prevent political instability and conflicts in member countries, which are Angola, Burundi, Central African Republic, Congo, DRC, Kenya, Rwanda, Sudan, South Sudan, Tanzania, Uganda and Zambia.

Kenya’s Ambassador Zachary Muburi-Muita is the ICGLR Executive Director.
