Malawi President Chakwera appoints relatives as ministers in his cabinet

Malawi President Lazarus Chakwera has appointed his relatives as ministers in the Malawi Cabinet.

The president’s former running mate in the 2019 elections Sidik Mia has been appointed the minister for transport while his wife Abida Mia is the deputy minister for lands.

Kenny Kandodo is the new labour minister while his sister Khumbize Kandodo is the health minister.

Business Gospel Kazako was appointed information minister and his sister-in-law Agnes Nkusa Nkhoma is the deputy agriculture minister.

The president faced criticism from Malawians on social media.

Additionally, most of the cabinet comprises of more than 70% of people from the central region which is Chakwera’s stronghold.
