#ArrestCOVID19Thieves: Active citizens march against brazen graft

On 16th of August, 2020, Nation Media Group through the NTV broadcasting arm aired a special feature on the activities behind resources allocated for the fight against Covid-19. The feature turned out to be an expose on the brazen and shameless use of facilities designed to assist the country manage the Covid-19 pandemic. So vulturous was the attitude of the thieves such that they converted donations made by Chinese billionaire Jack Ma into deliverable commodities…..and got paid for it.

The revelation angered Kenyans across board and encouraged visibility of online discussions on the issue for a record four days. To some sections of Kenyans, especially the culpable elite, the virtual anger was very characteristic of Kenyans. The rant would evaporate in a matter of time and fizzle out. It is in the Kenyan reaction script and the #Covid19Millionaires and their enablers in government circles were not, at least worried.

On the contrary, a group of excessively active Kenyans led by Buyer Beware Kenya (BBK) and the Kenya Tuitakayo Movement (KTM) organized a physical demonstration to register public anger on the sickening theft of epidemic resources. The main individuals behind the organization included Wanjeri Nderu Musembi, Mildred Atieno Owiso and Edwin Kiama popularly identified as Mwalimu Mutemi Wa Kiama.

As expected, the security agencies, in absolute contraventions to security policies responded through force. Violence apparatus such as tear gas, the cannons and bullish police attitude demonstrated the presence of a government unable to live the truth.
