Education Response Committee chaired by Sara Ruto of the Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development (KICD) recommends that schools re-open in October.
During the stakeholders meeting that took place today morning, Education CS George Magoha instructed teachers to report to school latest in Monday next week.
In terms of the basic education, CS Magoha says that they have agreed on a timetable this morning. He will take the recommendations to the larger committee and if it is agreed it will be announced. He reiterated that anything else that will be seen or printed before the official announcement is a rumor.
“It is not for me to give the date for the re-opening. The larger committee will take a look at the timetable. If they agree, it will be sent for concurrence to the person who will then announce when the schools will re-open.” CS Magoha said.
CS Magoha reiterated that he is the spokesperson of the Education sector and asked the 4th estate to stop confusing the people with unverified news.
Prof. Magoha went on to grant permission to university science students in their final year who are about to graduate but cannot finish their exams since they have to go physically to do their science practicals. He asked them to adhere to the stricts Covid protocols.
CS Magoha stated that those in tertiary colleagues will have to wait for communication between now to 28th in order for the committee to concur with what will be decided in the next address.
Standard Seven, Standard Eight, Form Three and Form Four students will be expected in school’s first.
The Education Ministry further said teachers will be guided on how to finish the syllabus before the national exams slated for April 2021.
