The Directorate of Criminal Investigations on Wednesday received protective gear and products to help curb the spread of coronavirus from the government of Germany.
The donations DCI George Kinoti received included rubber gloves, face masks, liquid soap, hands disinfectant gel and dispensers, infrared thermometers, protective eyewear, backpack sprayers, serviette dispensers and bins.
The donation was presented by GIZ head of Country component – Program Ulrich Jaenen and will “help build and strengthen police structures in Kenya”.
Speaking at the ceremony, Kinoti thanked Germany for the donations, noting that they will be distributed to front line DCI officers to ensure that they are. protected from contracting Covid-19 as they serve in their respective areas of operation.
Ulrich lauded the good working relationship with DCI and promised more support, which is funded by the German Federal Foreign Office and implemented through GIZ Police Program Africa.
In an earlier meeting in February, Kinoti and Jaenen and discussed ways to build and strengthen police structures through technical support from Germany.
“Federal Foreign Office that aims at improving cooperation between Independent Police Oversight Authority, law enforcement agencies, and the Judiciary,” the DCI said then.
According to GiZ, the Programme to build and strengthen the police structures in selected partner countries in Africa is active for the period between 2019-2022.
