The Ethnic clashes in Narok had claimed 8 lives as of Wednesday. In the fights, 13 people were injured and more than 20 houses burnt down.

The clashes erupted on Saturday in Oloruasi and Ololoipangi villages in Narok.  While addressing the press in his office in Nakuru town, Mr Natembeya claimed the clashes were being fuelled by some politicians.

The regional boss revealed that some politicians are going to the affected areas pretending to give relief food but end up inciting the local communities against each other.

As a result, Natembeya outlined measures that included banning politicians from visiting the affected areas. He also provided additional security personnel as well as setting up police posts in various areas.

He urged the fighting parties to surrender their weapons to the chiefs in the area. Natembeya said those involved in the ethnic clashes will be brought to book.

“Yesterday we reinforced securities in the affected areas. The GSU arrived yesterday and today morning we deployed officers of the anti-livestock theft unit from Gilgil and we will be adding more during the course of the day,” he said.

“Narok South is now peaceful. The challenging areas remaining are in Narok North, the battle is still ongoing,”

“For a long time we have not been having tribal clashes. Tribalism is primitivity. Some people have clung to the belief that someone from different tribe is the enemy. We are all Kenyans and that primitive behaviour should stop,” the regional boss added.
