Kalonzo is a perennial traitor, says ODM

Fresh political wars between ODM and Wiper Party appear to drive a deeper wedge into the relations in the NASA outfit.

ODM Secretary-General Edwin Sifuna on Sunday issued statement rubbishing claims by Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka of a secret pact between the two NASA parties.

The development confirms extended differences displayed on the public domain by the parties that sponsored a joint ticket in the 2013 and 2017 elections.

ODM Secretary General Edwin Sifuna

“The Orange Democratic Movement is shocked by claims made by Hon. Stephen Kalonzo Musyoka that there exists a secret pact between him and our party Leader H.E. Raila Odinga that will see Raila support him in 2022. We wish to state categorically that no such deal exists,” Sifuna said in the statement.
“We are, however, not surprised that Kalonzo is making those claims. It is typical of Mr Kalonzo’s character as a two faced treacherous character who is always whining while seeking to reap where he did not sow. It is a continuation of his “ kati kati” brand of politics. Kalonzo has indeed been variously described as a hyena who follows a man hoping the hands will fall,” Sufuna added.
ODM said Kalonzo tried to push Raila to commit to support him in 2022 as part of the NASA pact and as a party, wa demand that ODM rejected.
Sifuna said that was why the coalition agreement left it open for the party to support any of the partners in the event the coalition was renewed in 2022. “The so-called deal therefore only exists in Kalonzo’s wild dreams”.
The ODM Secretary General further said that “Kalonzo is a known traitor, currently undermining governors Ngilu, Mutua and Kibwana who won their seats against his wishes.”
“It is his politics of slyness, cowardice and self aggrandisement that has made him lose Hon Muthama and it is that brand of politics that is pushing him to Jubilee despite the fact that his arrival will add absolutely no value to Jubilee,” Sifuna said.
Kalonzo has been at loggerheads with the three Ukambani governors, who accuse him of selfishness and poor development agenda.
However, in a rejoinder Wiper Secretary General Senator Judith Sijeny accused Sifuna and ODM of casting aspirations on the character of Kalonzo.
Sijeny said the statement was “in extremely bad taste”.
“The tone and language used therein is totally unbefitting of a person holding the title of a secretary general of any political party, leave alone the Orange Democratic Movement which is led by no less a person than the well respected Hon. Raila Odinga,” she said in the statement.
She noted that Kalonzo supported Raila and was his runningmate in 2013 and 2017 general elections.
“Both are senior politicians who hold immense respect towards each other. It comes as a shock to me and the entire Wiper fraternity, therefore, to see the shameless, unwarranted attack against Hon. Kalonzo from a man who is so politically junior to him and who, for all intents and purposes, should defer to Hon. Kalonzo, owing to the latter’s immense political, leadership, and diplomatic experience,” Sijeny responded.
NASA parties – ODM, Wiper, ANC and Ford Kenya –  have been bickering since the mock swearing-in of Raila odinga as Uhuru park on January 30, 2018 which they all skived other than Raila and his ODM brigade.
Sifuna also accused the other partners of failure to support the coalition secretariat.
Kalonzo recently signed a cooperation agreement with Jubilee, essentially a final indication he was out of NASA.
