A Kenya Medical Research Institute manager is among 18 patients who have succumbed to Covid-19 in the last 24 hours.
Kemri Director of Corporate Services Kamau Mugenda had served in the organisation since April 2017 until he succumbed to the disease.
“Sadly, we have lost 18 patients to the disease, bringing our fatality to 456. We have also lost a health worker at Kemri. Mr Kamau Mugenda Director of Corporate Services since April 2017 ,” Health CAS Mercy Mwangangi said on Wednesday.
Mwangangi said Mugenda will be remembered for human resource development, automation of the institute processes through implementation of ERP systems and infrastructural development.
“He was buried today. My sincere condolences to the families and friends of the late Mugenda and all those who have lost their loved ones,” she said.

Kemri has been on the frontline in the war on Covid-19.
The Ministry of Health also reported 679 new Covid-19 cases detected from 6,590 samples within 24 hours, raising infections reported since March to 28,104.
Twenty one of the new patients are foreigners with the youngest being a month-old infant.
