Kenya’s High Commissioner to Nigeria and accredited to 12 other countries in Central and West Africa Dr Wilfred Machage is dead.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambasador Machage, 65, collapsed at home and was pronounced dead at hospital shortly thereafter at around 12.30pm on Saturday in Abuja, Nigeria.
“His wife was with him when this unfortunate incident happened,” the ministry said in a statement.Confirming the passing of Amb. Machage Foreign Affairs Principal Secretary Ambassador Macharia Kamau said the Ministry, and the country had lost a dedicated and committed leader.
Ambassador Machage, who was the first Senator of Migori, was appointed High Commissioner to Abuja, Nigeria by President Uhuru Kenyatta in January 2018.
Machage was first elected as MP to represent the Kuria constituency in 2002. He has served in several government ministries as an assistant minister and was at one time appointed Cabinet minister for East African Community Affairs, where he was also an ex-officio member of the East African Legislative Assembly.
In 2007 he was reelected MP on the Democratic Party.
He has also served as Assistant Minister of Home Affairs’ Office of Vice President, Office of the President, Health, and Roads dockets.
