Omar Lali, boyfriend to the late Tecra Muigai, was freed on Sh300, 000 cash bail after court declined to extend his detention. Omar was released by a Lamu Law Court after spending 21 days behind bars.

On Tuesday, Lamu Principal Magistrate Allan Temba refused to continue holding the suspect. This was after an application was made by the DCI and DPP to have Lali spend 7 more days in custody.

Mr Temba released Omar because the DPP had failed to decide what crime to charge him with. Moreover, the Principal Magistrate believes the suspect will not pose a threat to the witnesses. The suspect did not have to be behind cells when the extraction of phone data or toxicology report was conducted.

“Lali has no capacity to interfere with witnesses as he actually doesn’t know who they are. The court will therefore fix the bond terms on Wednesday at 2.30pm once Lali proves by documents his fixed abode,” said Mr Temba.

Tecra Muigai’s autopsy reveals she had suffered a head injury. She was laid to rest on May 16th in a ceremony attended by family members.
