Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru has evaded impeachment after the Senate Committee appointed to oversee the impeachment motion acquitted her. They said all charges levelled against her were not substantiated.
According to the committee, the County Assembly did not provide concrete and substantial evidence linking her to the alleged corruption.
“The committee having investigated the matter in accordance with its mandate under section 33(4) of the County Government’s act and standing orders reports to the senate that it finds that the two charges against the governor have not been substantiated,” concludes the committee.
According to the 88-page report, the Senate Committee wants the Directorate of Criminal Investigations and Anti-Corruption commission to investigate the allegations and find those responsible for prosecution.
