George Magoha, Kenya’s CS in charge of Education, on Monday afternoon, released the 2019 Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) results.

A total of 1,088,986 candidates sat for the exams this year. The students were distributed across 27,000 examination centres.

Andy Michael Munyiri, from Thogoto Primary School topped the exams after scoring 440 marks. Flavian Onyango, June Cheptoo and Sean Michael Ndung’u jointly took second position scoring 439 marks.

According to the 2019 results, 527,294 boys (50.1 per cent) and 525,070 girls (49.9 per cent) were tested across seven subjects.

However, and according to CS Magoha there was a drop in number of candidates who scored 400 marks from 11,000 in 2018 to 9,770 in 2019. Male candidates excelled in Mathematics, Science and Social Studies beating their female peers. The girls outshone boys in languages and the Kenya Sign Language subject.

Overall, the performance improved in four out of seven subjects namely; English, Kiswahili, Kenya Sign Language, and Social Studies, but registered a slight drop in Maths.

In the tests that took three days, from October 29 to October 31, there were 527,294 boys representing a percentage of 50.1%. Female candidates totaled to 525,070 taking up 49.9% of the entire candidate population.

Among those present at Mtihani House along Dennis Pritt Road included Dr. Belio Kipsang, PS Ministry of Education, Nancy Macharia, the head of Teachers’ Service Commission (TSC) and Dr. Mercy Karago, the head of Kenya National Examinations’ Council (KNEC)

The candidates can get their results by sending their KCPE Index number followed by the word “KCPE” to SMS code 20076.
