Health CS Mutahi Kagwe said Kenyans will start to manage and treat covid-19 patients at home.
While speaking during covid-19 briefing, CS Kagwe said Kenyan hospitals are becoming overwhelmed and it’s becoming challenging to treat more Kenyans with covid-19.
“Covid-19 may be managed from home. If this is implemented, it will free our health facilities from congestion. Nairobi and Mbagathi are already getting to full status,” said CS Kagwe.
Mutahi said the Ministry of Health is going to begin the implementation of treatment of covid-19 patients from their homes. They will have to follow the guidelines set by MOH.
“Taking care of 500 people is not the same as taking care of 5, 000 people. The Ministry of Health is in the process of actualizing home and community-based care protocols for rollout and to be implemented countrywide,” the CS said.

124 people have tested positive for covid-19 after testing 2, 640 samples within the last 24 hours. The total number of covid-19 cases in Kenya now stands at 2, 340.
People in isolation facilities will be released to be taken care of in their homes.
This will be possible only if the family members follow the new World Health Organization protocols.
This will also be possible if families have facilities. If families do not have the space or facilities to self-isolate, the government will still take care of them.
“Over the last few months we have learnt how to manage this disease. The time has come to implement the safety measures in our own place, depending on our own environment. It is the only way we can be able to cope with what we are expecting in the near future,” Kagwe said.
