The United Nations Development Programme has given a Sh80 million support to Nakuru county to help in its response to Covid-19 pandemic.
UNDP Resident Representative Walid Badawi donated medical waste management equipment at the Nakuru Referral Hospital, which he said will help manage medical waste during the coronavirus pandemic. The equipment will be shared among five hospitals in teh county.
Badawi said Nakuru was among the four counties that will benefit through UNDPs Sound Chemicals Management Mainstreaming and Unattended Persistent Organic Pollutants (UPOPs) Reduction Project.
The other beneficiaries of the Sh450 million project are Nairobi, Mombasa and Kisumu.

“Nakuru becomes the second to receive the waste management equipment to bolster Covid-19 management after Mbagathi Hospital in Nairobi,” he said.
This was in partnership with the Ministry of Environment and Global Environment Facility.
Badawi was accompanied by Environment PS Chris Kiptoo.
Kiptoo said there are plans to install and multi-million incinerator at the Naivasha Level 4 Hospital through the partnership of the national government and the UNDP waste management project.
