Foreign Affairs CS Raychelle Omamo on Tuesday, March 29, held bilateral talks with Slovakia State Secretary for Foreign and European Affairs Ingrid Brockova in Nairobi.
During the talks, CS Omamo appreciated continued development assistance provided through Slovak Aid to Kenya targeting social welfare.
Slovakia has development programmes covering school digitization, agri-support and environment in various counties. Other areas of interest are in bilateral defence cooperation, women empowerment through capacity building, universal healthcare, and security.
According to the embassy, the minister will be in Kenya for a week holding meetings to strengthen bilateral relations, and engagements in trade/development assistance, multilateral cooperation, climate crisis and women empowerment.
“Now more than ever, it is important for our two continents to speak actively. There are challenges we can only stand a chance to solve together. Be it security, consequence of armed conflicts, environmental crisis or Covid. Together we are stronger,” the embassy said in a social media dispatch.
Brockova says during the visit, she will also hold talks with Treasury Cabinet Secretary Ukur Yatani to deepen mutual bilateral cooperation.
“Kenya is one of the three program countries of the Slovak development agenda. Among other things, I will also meet with representatives of international organizations Unesco, UNDP Kenya, UN Women Regional Office, Nairobi UN Environment Programme , UN Habitat and Delegation, EU in Nairobi,” she said.
“Part of my visit will also be monitoring development projects implemented by SlovakAid in cooperation with partners from non-governmental sector,” she said.
The Slovak government aid projects are worth about Sh206 million.
The two states also cooperate in trade, energy (nuclear), construction, transport, infrastructure, engineering, water, agriculture and information technologies.
Bilateral trade is limited. Kenya’s main exports to Slovakia include cut flowers, legumes, fruits, nuts, coffee, and iron and steel screws and bolts, while Slovakia’s main exports to Kenya include paper, automobiles, fertilisers, machinery and equipment, computers and electronics.
