Foreign Affairs lobbies Arab, Latin America ambassadors for UNSC seat bid

As President Uhuru Kenyatta and his Foreign Affairs CS lobby for Kenya’s bid for a non-permanent seat at the UN Security Council in New York, the same is happening back in Kenya through efforts led by the ministry.

On Thursday, Political and Diplomatic Secretary Ambassador Tom Amolo, who is also the special envoy for Kenya for UNSC #Kenya4UNSC campaigns held meetings with different envoys in bid to secure the seat.

He met Arab Group of Ambassadors in Nairobi to discuss “matters of mutual interest between Kenya and League of Arabs”, as well as the Group of Latin America and the Caribbean (GRULAC) to appeal for Kenya support for a non-permanent seat at the UN Security Council for the 2021-22 period.

At the UNGA19, CS Monica Juma met South Africa’s Minister for International Cooperation Naledi Pandor, and engaged on among other issues focus on “multilateral cooperation”.

She also met Guinea’s Foreign Affairs Minister Mamadi Touré, a country she said “remains solidly behind our bid for the UNSC”.

She also said Nigeria is in support of Kenya’s bid shortly after meeting Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Geoffrey Oryeama before the start of the 74th session of UNGA.

At the meeting of the Bureau of the Council of Ministers of the 79-strong African, Caribbean and Pacific (ACP) States in New York on Tuesday, Foreign Affairs CAS Ababu Namwaba thanked Kenya’s “ACP friends and partners for their goodwill towards Kenya’s bid for a non permanent seat on the UN Security Council.”
