Al Shabaab resurgent attacks seek to destabilize Kenya and the East Africa region, the US Embassy in Kenya has said.

Through a statement on the anniversary of Dusit D2 Attack, the US said they are partnering with Kenya in training, sharing information, and fighting side by side to defeat the Somalia-based terror organization.

“Al-Shabaab’s ongoing efforts to destabilize democratic, open societies represent a destructive threat in Kenya and East Africa. We remain fully committed to the fight against terrorism and are proud to partner with Kenya to defeat Al-Shabaab,” the statement said.

The US also commended Kenyan authorities for the speed and courage of the response to the attack, saving lives and ending the attack a year ago at Riverside Drive.

Twenty-one people were killed and at least 28 injured in the January 15 terror attack.

This month alone, Al Shabaab militants have carried out three attacks, targeting schools, police posts in Garissa and a military camp in Lamu. At least 10 Kenyans have been killed in these attacks.
