Sixteen Jubilee ‘rebel’ MPs are on the verge of being removed from National Assembly committees in the ongoing fumigation in the ruling party.

National Assembly Majority Chief Whip Emmanuel Wangwe — who was named in Tuesday changes after a Jubilee Parliamentary Group meeting — on Wednesday wrote to 16 Jubilee legislators, notifying them of plans to discharge them from key parliamentary committees should they fail to respond in seven days.

Among those who Wangwe wrote to include Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria (Transport committee), Kikuyu MP Kimani Ichung’wah (Budget committee chairman) and Endebess legislator Robert Pukose (Energy committee.

Others are Cornelly Serem (Trade) and Joyce Korir (Labour) and all of them are allies of Deputy President William Ruto.

“You are hereby given seven days to respond before you are discharged from the said committee,” Wangwe said in the letters copied to National Assembly Speaker Justin Muturi and clerk Michael Sialai.

Wangwe was appointed after Mumias East MP Benjamin Washiali and his deputy Cecily Mbarire (nominated) were ousted. The two are also affiliated to Ruto.

President Uhuru Kenyatta in an interview with NTV said he wants people who will support his agenda, as he seeks to secure his legacy in two years.

MPs who attended the Tuesday meeting said Uhuru warned that he will not tolerate any politician sabotaging his leadership.
