Club 1824 in Langata has been closed. This comes after a clip of many people partying without masks and social distancing went viral. The club shared the changes on its Instagram page.
The clip showed people crowded together, drinking and shouting without following any of the covid-19 safety guidelines.
The National Emergency Response Committee acknowledged the viral clip and attributed the rising cases of coronavirus in Langata to behaviours such as those in club 1824.
It warned Kenyans against holding public gatherings like the one in club 1824.
“No one should be surprised why we have cases rising in Langata. Our young people have decided not to follow the Government guidelines. And obviously a greedy Kenyan who does not care whether people contract the disease or not,” NERC said through social media.
“Remember the disease does not travel by itself, someone carries the disease. Parents, if you are not careful you will end up looking after many cases of Corona in your households,”

According to a flier, the party in 1824 was supposed to be a fundraiser event for Amani Mutumi.
She was diagnosed with Lupus and has been under critical care at the Nairobi Hospital for the last 6 weeks.
The fundraiser was to be a 3-day event happening from 30th May to 1st June 2020.
People were encouraged to bring their cars for mechanical checks and car wash to raise funds.
Club 1824 provided an ample lounge space as the clients waited for their cars to be serviced.
The flier indicates that there were plans to ensure people adhered to covid-19 restrictions and guidelines but that never happened.
In the viral clip people were not wearing masks, were crowding close together and there was no social distancing.
