A day after resigning from President Uhuru Kenyatta’s government, Ababu took up his new role as international affairs head in WSR presidential bid.

“From Office to Roof, officially and Unapologetically. Rolling on the floor laughing Lets elect @WilliamsRuto President and revolutionise Kenya’s political narrative profoundly forever: from tribe to issues, from elitist capture to popular will,” he tweeted on Friday.

Ababu was appointed to Ruto’s presidential campaign secretariat on Wednesday. DP Ruto is tapping into Ababu’s foreign affairs experience, lobbying and global network.

In the announcement made by head of communications Hussein Mohamed, Ruto said he has worked closely with Ababu for over 10 years, in which he has valued his “leadership, experience, focus and empathy”.

“It is because of those qualities that I could not be more grateful to have him in our campaign team,” Ruto said, adding that has considerable diplomatic talents, deep knowledge of the continent, and strong network on the global stage, and unwavering determination.

In January, Ababu announced he was backing DP Ruto for the presidency and has been accompanying him on the campaign trail.

He said Ruto is the best bet to continue President Kenyatta’s vision.

“In 2017, I said UhuRuto! I supported a team and before I backed them, I sat with the President and his deputy and they shared with me his vision for Kenya. For me the man who understands the UhuRuto vision best is the person who was part of its formulation. That person is William Ruto,” he said in an interview.

Ababu served as Budalang’i MP between 2007-17.

He lost the post in 2017 to Raphael Wanjala of ODM and was appointed as Foreign Affairs CAS in January 2018.
