Vybz Kartel is free! Probably the biggest news in the dancehall world right now, Jamaican Deejay and dancehall star Vybez Kartel has been set free.

Born in 7th January 1976, the 48-year-old has spent the last 13 years incarcerated despite aggressive appeal pushes. The Jamaican Court of Appeal on Wednesday awarded freedom to a figure that occupied the global dancehall environment for years.

Vybz Kartel and his co-accused will not undergo any retrial according to the ruling allowing the group to taste full freedom. Kartel, real name Adidja Palmer, received a life sentence alongside Shawn Campbell, Andre St. John, and Kahira Jones.

The bench comprising Court of Appeal of President Marva McDonald-Bishop weighed down on the possibility of accessing a fair jury among other decisional factors. Vybz Kartel now ends a long judicial interpretation battle since his 2014 conviction.

The dancehall scene is expected to jubilantly welcome Addi Ticha and his crew given the long sabbatical. Even though Vybz Kartel went ahead to release a number of songs behind bars, the sentence clearly limited his talent exploration.

Shawn Campbell, stage name Shawn Storm was part of the various outfits crafted by Vybz Kartel in their Portmore musical base.
