The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the family of Kenya’s Ambassador to South Sudan today received his remains at JKIA.
Ambassador Chris Mburu collapsed and died on Sunday in Juba. It is suspected to have been as a result of a heart attack.
Among the officials at JKIA were Foreign Affairs CS Raychelle Omamo, PS Macharia Kamau, PDS Moi Lemoshira and South Sudan Ambassador to Kenya Chol Ajongo.
PS Kamau said Ambassador Mburu had an outstanding career having worked for the Kenyan government for a very long time.
“He has served in Geneva, South Sudan and here in Nairobi. He has worked for various security services and was most recently Director of Intelligence and was then deployed as Ambassador to South Sudan,” Kamau said.
Ambassador Mburu’s last official duty before his death was welcoming and seeing off President Salva Kiir of South Sudan when he attended the funeral service of Kenya’s former President Daniel Moi.
Kamau said he experienced breathing problems.
“We have lost a great ambassador and dedicated officer who has shown exemplary service,” the PS said.
President Uhuru Kenyatta eulogised Mburu as a “distinguished career public servant and a great Kenyan diplomat who was committed to building strong bilateral ties between Kenya and South Sudan”.
