Some Kenyans have been giving out false contacts during targeted testing and contact tracing, Health CAS Dr Rashid Aman said on Tuesday.

This was not, however, the first time the Ministry of Health was complaining o the behaviour.

This, Aman said, hindered efforts of tracing people who tested positive to corona virus or those who came into direct contact with positive Covid-19 patients.

This increases the risk of community infection.

“I’ve noticed a disturbing behaviour and a dangerous one at that. This pertains to persons giving false contacts during targeted testing. It is important to provide accurate information because it is only through this that contact tracing is possible,” Dr Aman said.

“Providing wrong information means that such individuals are continuing to spread the virus to their loved ones, their friends and to the community,”

He commended Kenyans who had responded to their call to come forward for testing. Dr Aman appealed to Kenyans to come out and get tested.

Kenya on Tuesday recorded 62 new covid-19 cases within the last 24 hours after testing 2, 293 samples.

“The true picture of this country will be known through the tests we are currently conducting,” he added.

Some 2, 293 samples were tested within the last 24 hours and out of these, 62 people tested positive for coronavirus. The number of confirmed cases now stands at 1, 348.

Additionally, three people have recovered from the virus and were discharged from hospital, bringing the total number of recoveries to 405.

Out of the 62 new cases, 59 people are Kenyans and 3 are foreign nationals. In terms of gender, 45 are males while 17 are females.

The age-range is between 6 years old for youngest and 64 years old for the oldest. The positive cases are from; Nairobi (23), Mombasa (16), Kwale (8), Kiambu (6), Kajiado (6) and Kitui (3).

The Ministry of Health has encouraged Kenyans in high-risk areas to come forward and be tested. According to Dr Aman, the cost of testing, quarantine, isolation and treatment in a government facility will be met by the government.
