The elders say DP Ruto has remained faithful to the President and thus doesn’t deserve the humiliation he currently faces.

They now want answers on why President Kenyatta has allegedly sidelined his deputy.

Chairman of the council James Luko, said it is unfair how President Kenyatta is treating William Ruto.

“It’s been long since we’ve seen President Uhuru Kenyatta walking with the Deputy President William Ruto. Ruto is being pushed further against the wall day by day. You will never find Uhuru telling us what Ruto has done wrong. We have also never heard Ruto arguing with the President,” Luko said.

Luko also said the majority of the people in the Rift Valley, Ruto’s backyard, voted for the President in 2013 and 2017.

He added that he does not understand when and why the wide rift between the President and his Deputy began.

“During elections in Rift Valley, we voted for him (President Uhuru Kenyatta). Even in remote Kapenguria, people voted for him. He got 99 per cent of the votes. He also got the same percentage of votes in Nandi, Kipsigis and Elgeyo Marakwet. There’s nowhere where he got few votes.”

“Now, when did Satan come between us? If you only want Ruto to push BBI agenda on his people, that’s against the law because it’s not democracy,” the chairman said.

Consequently, the elders want Uhuru to make a trip to te Rift Valley to explain whatever is going on between him and his deputy. They also want Uhuru to break the partnership in their presence if he plans to do so.

This comes after Elgeyo Marakwet Senator Kipchumba Murkomen, a Ruto ally,  was ousted as the Senate Majority leader and replaced by Samuel Poghisio. Nakuru Senator Susan Kihika was also removed as the Majority Chief Whip and replaced by Irungu Kang’ata, an ally of the President.

Prof Kithure Kindiki, who was once taunted as a possible running mate to the Deputy President in 2022,  was also fired as the Senate Deputy Speaker on Friday.
