• While the communication by Keroche Breweries on Saturday said she had died in a “tragic accident”, reports indicate Tecra might have died in a fall after a fight with her boyfriend.
More details about Keroche Breweries owners’ daughter Tecra Karanja’s life have emerged.
This is even as the key suspect in her death Omar Lali, her 54-year-old boyfriend, was on Monday arraigned at Lamu law courts before principal magistrate Allan Temba in a video link.
He is facing suspected murder charges.
While the communication by Keroche Breweries on Saturday said she had died in a “tragic accident”, reports indicate Tecra might have died in a fall in a set of stairs after a fight with Lali.
Was Tecra Karanja pushed to her death by boyfriend in Lamu?
Lali was detained for 21 days pending investigations.
Those who saw the two lovebirds say they booked at Diamond Hotel in Manda Bay, Lamu, on March 18, where they stayed until April 18. They later moved to another hotel in Shela.
They met in Lamu in April last year. Since then, they have been living on and off in Shela, Lamu. Lali’s family confirmed that the two were in a romantic relationship.
Further reports indicate although Tecra was the Innovations and Strategy director at the brewery, she was not in good terms with the family over some business decisions.
“Tecra was living away from the rest of her family who were in Nairobi and she was very heartbroken and lonely. She kept telling us, her friends, that she was the black sheep and she was in Lamu because she had said some things about the family business that had made her mother disappointed in her,” a friend called Miriam is quoted saying.
She wasn’t happy with how things were being handled, he friend said.
“In Lamu Tecra would drown her pain in parties and adventures. Some people took advantage of her being young and being the daughter of ‘Keroche’”.
Lali’s brother Ali told Citizen TV that when the incident happened on April 27, he called him for assistance, saying Tecra had fallen.
She was taken to Shela Hospital, before being transferred to King Fahad and later airlifted to Nairobi Hospital where she succumbed to head injuries.
Doctors say she suffered cerebral-oedema resulting from a fall.
Lali was arrested on Sunday by DCI detectives over suspicions that he could have been involved in her death.
He initially said she tumbled down the stairs before later changing his account to say she tripped in the bathroom.
The case will be mentioned on May 26 for further directions and report from the investigating officer.
