Azimio la Umoja presidential candidate Raila Odinga on Monday named what will be part of his Cabinet and government, if he wins the presidency in the August 9 General Election.
Alongside Narc Kenya leader Martha Karua, who he named as his running mate and and Constitutional Affairs Cabinet Secretary, Raila also named individuals who will be part of the Azimio government, should he occupy State House.
Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka was given the position of Chief Cabinet Secretary to supervise other ministries. Kalonzo, however, in a parallel event appeared to exit Azimio coalition party, announced his presidential bid and named Andrew Leteipa Sunkuli as his running mate.
His allies had on Sunday also hinted at going to the High Court seeking to leave the Azimio-One Kenya Coalition Party.
Kakamega Governor and ODM Deputy Party Leader Wycliffe Oparanya will take the position of National Treasury Cabinet Secretary, while Peter Munya will retain his docket as Agriculture CS with an additional role as Kenya Productive Sector chairman.
Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho and ODM Deputy Party Leader will be the Lands Cabinet Secretary to, according to Raila, fight historical land injustices at the Coast and across the country.
Raila also announced former National Assembly Speaker Kenneth Marende will be the Senate Speaker.
The announcement appeared to appease Coast, Western and Mt Kenya regions as he battles it out with Deputy President William Ruto for the presidency in the August 9 elections.
Marende, arguably a Solomonic speaker during the Grand Coalition, and Oparanya come from Western region, and they will check ANC leader Musalia Mudavadi and Ford Kenya’s Moses Wetang’ula who are in Kenya Kwanza Alliance with DP Ruto.
With Joho in the Lands docket, he will check DP Ruto’s inroads in the Coast region particularly with the historical injustices it has faced.
