Celebrated journalist Timothy Otieno revealed he worked for 7 months without being paid at KTN before they decided to hire him.
Speaking to True Love Magazine, Timothy narrated his journey into the media industry.
“When I was a first-year university student at Moi University, I got a three-month internship at Royal Media Services as a Studio Production Assistant for Citizen TV,” the journalist said.
One and a half years later, Timothy interned as a TV reporter for KTN.
After finishing the internship, he decided to volunteer at the station to sharpen his skills.
“On completion of my internship, I requested to work for free during my long holidays. I volunteered for KTN for 7 months until I was hired on 15th July 2015 when KTN News was lunched,” the 28-year-old said.

Timothy had a lot of difficulty gaining the trust of the editors in the newsroom. This is because he had joined the industry at a very young age.
However, this did not stop him from trying his best and his stories started being aired.
“The first time my story went on air I was elated. Although looking back now, I felt that was such horrible reporting. My voicing was horrible and I feel like the scripting was not good at all. I’m not sure how my editors allowed it to go on air,” the KTN reporter reveals.
Despite being a newbie in the industry at the time, Media personality Alex Chamwada saw his potential and helped him become better at his craft.

“Alex Chamwada took me under his wings while I was still a 3rd year student and moulded me into the journalist I am today,”
“I had on several occasions tried to approach renowned journalists through social media for mentorship but none of them responded,” the producer said.
Additionally, Timothy Otieno revealed he was raised by a single mother. However, he has reconnected with his father but has not yet bonded with him.
“Father’s day is just a normal day to me because I was raised by a single mother. I recently reconnected with my father and I’m hoping to make up on lost time. For now, he’s just a man I know, no solid bonds have been created yet,” said the Area-Code show producer.
