Kenya records highest covid-19 cases in a day, Germany donates mobile clinic labs

Today, Kenya has recorded the highest number of covid-19 cases in 24 hours since the pandemic began. While speaking at Afya House, CS Mutahi Kagwe announced 66 new covid-19 cases. This brings the total number of covid-19 cases to 1029. 64 of the new cases are Kenyans while 2 are foreign nationals.

Germany has also donated two covid-19 mobile clinic testing labs which are provided through German support by the east African community to Kenya. This will reinforce Kenya’s testing capacity.

“These mobile labs are an example of multi lateral approach. Kenya is receiving these testing labs from the EAC. The mobile labs will enable our Kenyan partners to detect communicable diseases on the ground react accordingly, ” German Ambassador to Kenya Annet Gunther said.

The ambassador also said there were well trained lab staff that would operate efficiently.

“The procurement of these mobile labs is complemented by a training program. The lab staff from Kenya has gone through extensive training both in Germany and in Kenya,” Ambassador Annet said.

New Stringent Measures

Due to the high covid-19 cases today, the National Emergency Response Committee on coronavirus has extended the cessation of movement in and out of Eastleigh in Nairobi until 6th June. Moreover, the cessation of movement in and out of Old Town Mombasa has been extended until 6th June 2020. In addition to the stringent measures, eateries and restaurants will also remain closed so that the spread of Coronavirus can be controlled.

CS Mutahi Kagwe recognized the importance of truck drivers who ensure we have adequate supplies of food and medicine across East Africa. He apologized for the inconveniences caused.

“We recognize the efforts of truck drivers who ensure we have adequate supplies of food and medicine across east Africa. We are putting in place measures to facilitate quick testing for the truck drivers,” CS Kagwe said.
