Announcing the appointment through a statement on November 12, Australia Foreign Affairs Minister Senator Penny Wong said Canberra values its longstanding relationship with Nairobi based on shared democratic values, commitment to multilateralism, and significant trade and cultural links.

“Australia and Kenya cooperate closely across a wide range of areas including climate change, food security and in multilateral fora,” Wong said.

Da Rin is a senior career officer with the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, and was recently serving as Assistant Secretary, Southeast Asia Development Policy and Programs Branch.

She is not new to the region as she served in Ethiopia (2021), also accredited to Djibouti, South Sudan, the Central African Republic, the AU, IGAD and UN Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA).

She has also previously served overseas as High Commissioner to Vanuatu (2017-2020) and Indonesia as minister counsellor.

Da Rin succeeds High Commissioner Luke Williams, who has served in Nairobi since 2020.
