In July 2018, Peter Ndegwa become the first African to be at the helm of Diageo PLC’s business operations in Continental Europe and Russia as General Manager.
Before taking up the position in the Netherlands, Ndegwa served as Guinness Nigeria Breweries CEO for three years, a period in which he delivered double-digit growth.
This was at a time when the country was facing economic challenges due to declining oil prices. His efforts resulted in a 40 per cent recovery in the share price.
He left Nigeria for his current role in Europe in July last year.
Prior to that, he was also in West Africa, Ghana, where he was Guinness Ghana Breweries PLC chief executive between 2011 and 2015.
Before joining the beer business in January 2004, when he joined EABL, Ndegwa worked as a sales director between 2006 and 2008 as head and director of strategy. He worked at the firm for 11 years.
Ndegwa has spent over 25 years in various roles within the financial services and fast-moving consumer goods sectors in Africa and Europe.
EDUCATION
He holds an MBA from the London Business School and a Bachelor’s degree in Economics from the University of Nairobi.
He is also a Certified Public Accountant and a member of the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Kenya.
