FORMER Lesotho First Lady Maesaiah Thabane has been remanded in custody until June 6 pending hearing of her bail application in her murder case.

Thabane was arrested on Wednesday over the murder of the previous wife of her husband, former Prime Minister Thomas Thabane, Lipolelo Thabane, police said.

Lesotho’s Appeal Court revoked her bail last week on suspicion that procedure was not followed correctly when her bail was granted in February.

The date for a new bail application was set as June 6.

Lipolelo was shot dead near her home in Lesotho’s capital, Maseru, in June, 2017. She was estranged from Thomas Thabane at the time of the murder.

The case had been causing growing political instability in The former Prime Minister is also a suspect in the murder but denies any involvement.

He isyet to be formally charged. He formally stepped down last month as prime minister following months of pressure after he was named as a suspect in the murder of his ex-wife.
