Wu, 53, arrived in the country on March 22, 2019 and presented his credential to President Uhuru Kenyatta on April 18.

On his arrival, he said he would work together with his colleagues, fully implement President Xi Jinping’s thought on diplomacy and push forward China-Kenya cooperation in all areas.

Wu succeeded Ambassador Sun Baohong, who also served a short stint in Nairobi, having started her duty on June 5, 2018.

She left under a cloud of claims of mistreatment of Kenyans in some Chinese firms in Kenya.

In defending the Chinese companies doing business in Kenya, Sun said reports of SGR workers undergoing humiliating treatment arose from language and culture barriers.

She  further claimed the acts captured in photos published by the Standard were part of a team- building process, which is part and parcel of Chinese culture.

Cotu secretary general Francis Atwoli then said the Labour ministry was reluctant to act on cases of substandard working conditions in many Chinese firms on claims that it would scare investors away.

During his tenure, Wu has been a huge defender of Chinese, especially following the Covid-19 outbreak.

In February this year, Wu warned citizens against making racist remarks towards the Chinese amid the coronavirus pandemic.

“We call upon a rational and scientific approach towards Chinese communities, firmly object any irresponsible and even racist remarks as seen from one of the MPs today,” he said in a statement.
