While speaking in Parliament on Tuesday, Tanzanian President John Magufuli revealed his mother was unwell and asked people to pray for her.
He was addressing the last sitting of Tanzania parliament before the commencement of political campaigns as the general election approaches.
Magufuli said his mother had been bedridden for two years and has been suffering from a stroke for long.
According to the President, his mother cannot feed herself.
He thanked his wife Janet Magufuli and other family members for always taking care of his mother.
“I thank my wife Janet Magufuli and my family members. I request you to continue praying for my mother who has been suffering from stroke for two years. She cannot speak, turn in bed and is being fed using tubes. It’s all the will of God,” Magufuli said during the last 11th Parliament Session ahead of the upcoming general elections.

Magufuli reopened Tanzania after saying the country had defeated covid-19 through prayers. Moreover, he ordered the reopening of schools from June 29.
“All schools shall reopen on June 29 this year. All activities we had banned will also resume. We had delayed couples from getting married, let marriage resume. Life should be back to normal like it used to be,” he said.
According to the president, Tanzania had “successfully managed the virus” and ordered schools to be reopened.
Moreover, he directed night clubs, places of worship and all other activities that had been stopped to resume from June 29.
Health Minister Ummy Mwalimu had said Tanzania’s capital city Dar es Salaam only had 4 cases on June 1.
High schools, colleges and universities were re-opened on June 1st and sporting events were allowed to resume.
The country had stopped giving coronavirus updates until on Monday when the prime minister shared the positive covid-19 numbers.
This is because President Magufuli had said the National Laboratory was giving people false covid-19 figures.
However, he could not determine whether they were the culprits or whether the testing kits were faulty.
