The BBI, a creation of the handshake between President Uhuru Kenyatta and Raila Odinga, has been hijacked to create the 2022 line up for the ODM party, Deputy President William Ruto has said.
“We accept that Bbi/handshake has been hijacked to craft Odm’s 2022 political line up. Unity/inclusivity pretence & associated squander of public resources should stop.Unity?the opposition (NASA) is already dismembered/dead;now dividing Jubilee. Big4 roll out only way to go. (sic),” the DP tweeted on Sunday.
This came shortly after he trashed the BBI meetings being led by ODM leader Raila Odinga and Interior CS Fred Matiang’i. The first consultative meeting happened in Kisii on Friday.
Ruto questioned the meetings, saying they are a waste of taxpayers’ cash because no one has opposed the BBI report.
“The question is not who supports the BBI report. All leaders support it. Let Kenyans read, and decide for themselves if the report is good for Kenya,” the DP said while on a tour of Vihiga and Bungoma counties.
“Now a new game of political mobilisation has been initiated. What are all these campaigns for? Who do they want to persuade? Is it a way of misusing government resources?” Ruto posed.
Without mentioning names, the DP also said the BBI has been taken over by people with vested interests.
“We agreed and the President state clearly that we look for enough copies of the BBI report so every citizen can read and decide for themselves. When did it change? Now that is is not for the citizens to read but for politicians and their entourage to read. That it is not for the citizens to decide but some people with vested interests?” he said.
At the Kisii meeting, Jubilee nominated MP Maina Kamanda said the 2022 government would come from those who attended the meeting, saying Matiang’I would be well taken of in the next government.
Kamanda said the Central MPs working with Ruto are looking for jobs, and the place they are looking for the jobs, there won’t be a government.
“The government will be formed by Raila, Uhuru and the leaders who are here. The government of Kenya will not be led by thieves,” Kamanda said.
“the government that we have is being led by Matiang’i. So look after him well and we will put him in our armpit,” he added.
Among those who attended the meeting were governors Anne Waiguru (Kirinyaga), Charity Ngilu (Kitui), James Ongwae (Kisii) and Devolution CS Eugene Wamalwa.
