Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka on Tuesday further complicated things for Azimio la Umoja proponents after he called for fresh talks based on their deal with Raila Odinga On April 30, 2017.
Addressing a press conference at OKA centre, Musyoka said although he is ready to work with Raila again ahead of the 2022 election, he insisted Raila should honour the 2017 pre-election deal and back him.
Musyoka went ahead to release the document “in order to answer in part, some of the criticism that has been labelled against me to wit; “The indecisive Kingmaker” and the often quoted statement made before the NTV Reporter, to the effect that I would be a fool to support Hon. Raila A. Odinga a third time, without a measure of reciprocity”.
The agreement provided that Raila agrees in a public MoU to serve one term and publicly endorse Musyoka as the presidential candidate for 2022.
In the deal, the two agreed to share campaign resources, especially funds for the duration of the 2017 elections.
He said releasing this document, he had tried twice to have Prof Makau Mutua, one of the witnesses and depository and now Raila’s adviser, to convene a meeting between him and Raila. It was unsuccessful.
“On his part, Prof. Makau stands in breach of his obligation under the agreement since he has joined Raila’s campaign team,” Musyoka said.
He also explained his absence at ODM’s NDC where Raila was named a presidential candidate, saying attending it would have meant ensorsing his nopmunation.
“I believe my brother Hon. Raila Odinga has committed an irreparable material breach of this Agreement – defined as “irreparable material breach” shall mean a repudiation, reneging, a violation or an ouster in any way of any of Articles of Agreement,” the former VP said.
He said he is ready to work with Raila again under the “three pillar, Grand Coalition Government”.
“I urge that as we engage in fresh negotiations this document forms the basis for such negotiation.I urge political leaders and all leaders to remain true to their written commitments for this sets a good example to present and future generations,” the Wiper boss said.
Among the conditions he has put forward in that the new outfit be named Azimio-One Kenya Alliance, so as his OKA alliance retains its identity.
