President Uhuru Kenyatta, on Wednesday afternoon, sustained his static stand on the possibility of increased allocation of money to counties.
Citing monetary hardships faced by the national government, Kenyatta urged counties to work with the Sh 316 billion available and forget about accessing sh.331 billion. The Commission on Revenue Allocation (CRA) had settled on Sh.331 billion for the counties. Parliament, on the other hand, had set the amount at Sh. 316 billion. The national government has visibly elected to use parliamentary figures.
Speaking during the opening of refurbished chambers at Nakuru County Assembly facilities, Uhuru pleaded with county governments to end revenue stalemate and save ordinary Kenyans from suffering.
Most counties have not paid their workers July salaries. Pending bills are also threatening to hamper service delivery in counties. Critical functions such as health have stalled due to
persistent standoff between stakeholders.
