Ken Okoth got second ‘wife’ from Sonko Rescue Team, Nairobi governor now says

Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko has sensationally claimed former Kibra MP Ken Okoth got his alleged second wife from his Sonko Rescue Team.

Sonko told mourners at Moi Girls Secondary School that Okoth met nominated Nairobi MCA Anne Thumbi aka Anita, then a nurse with Sonko Rescue Team, at a medical camp in Kibra in 2013.

The Sonko Rescue Team is an initiative by the Nairobi Governor, which offers free services, such as medical camps, water using boozers and hearse services.

“Ken Okoth had another wife, as a governor, I know this…I gave Okoth a nurse, Anita, from Sonko Rescue Team,” Sonko said at the funeral service.

“Ken will not forgive me if I don’t save the situation. Ken fell in love with a nurse called Anita from the Sonko rescue team… In 2017, he asked me to help him nominate his second wife to the County Assembly and out of respect for him, I nominated Ann Nthumbi,” the governor said.

Sonko told the family of Okoth to recognise Thumbi and Okoth’s son, saying she was prevented from viewing the body at Lee Funeral Home.

“In spite of denials from some members of the family, it’s clear that Ken recognised that and he was there for his son from the pictures and some other documents,” he added. “My humble appeal is that even as we prepare to bury Ken, let’s not forget his son. He too needs and has a right to participate in the send-off of his beloved dad. As such, it’s our duty to protect the right of the child,” he said.

Okoth’s mother Angelina Ongere on Tuesday told K24 that her son did not sire a child with any woman, and urged members of the public to treat as “fake” claims by any lady who would come out to allege that the deceased got a baby with her. This is despite photos that went viral showing her enjoying a moment with the alleged grandson.
