Foreign Affairs PS Ambassador Macharia Kamau and his Planning counterpart Saitoti Torome hosted Ambassador Ib Petersen, the Denmark special envoy for #ICPD25 and Pio Smith, Chief of Staff/UNFPA at KICC, where they held a briefing on the preparedness ahead of the conference scheduled for November 12-14 in Nairobi.

There will be the main event and several side events at the conference and campaigns/calls have already started for most of them.

The conference will also bring together renowned population and development scholars, scientists and researchers who will be present findings from recent research studies to provide evidence of the achievements of the past 25 years and for decision-making towards accelerated progress on the ICPD programme of action and SDGs.

The Summit cover five themes highlighting the power of gender equality, youth leadership, political and community leadership, innovation and data, and partnerships to accelerate progress throughout.

These will be; Universal access to sexual and reproductive health and rights as a part of universal health coverage; Financing required to complete the ICPD. Programme of Action, and to sustain the gains made; Drawing on demographic diversity to drive economic growth and achieve sustainable development; Ending gender-based violence and harmful practices; Upholding the right to sexual and reproductive health care even in humanitarian and fragile contexts.

A National Coordinating Committee was first established in NCPD in January this year when Kenya was selected as the host for the conference and soon after, the National Steering Committee, chaired by Planning PS.
