Former ICT Cabinet Secretary Margaret Nyambura Ndung’u has declined her nomination as Kenya’s envoy to Ghana.
In a letter to the National Assembly’s Defence Committee, Ndung’u cited personal reasons for her decision.
She was due to appear before the Nelson Koech-led committee, which is conducting approval hearings for the diplomatic nominees.
“Pursuant to Section 16 of the Public Appointment, Parliamentary Approval Act 3 of 2011, I wish to inform you that I will not appear before the said committee a the time and venue specified for the approval hearing,” Ndung’u wrote.
“I wish to inform you that I will not appear occasioned by personal and compelling reasons… To save precious time of the committee, this letter serves as notice that I will not attend,” she said in the letter to the Committee through the Clerk of the National Assembly.
Ndung’u becomes the second nominee to turn down the High Commissioner to Ghana post after former West Mugirango MP Victor Mogaka Kemosi in April 2024.
Kemosi declined his nomination as the country’s envoy in Accra citing “personal and compelling family matters”.
Ndung’u was dropped from Cabinet in December 2024, when President William Ruto nominated his predecessor, Uhuru Kenyatta, allies to the Cabinet just four months after taking up the job. She will be replaced by former Kiambu governor William Kabogo when approved by Parliament.
Dr Andrew Karanja who joined the Cabinet alongside Ndung’u as Agriculture CS was nominated as ambassador to Brazil.
