Germany Ambassador Sebastian Groth has reiterated his country’s commitment in supporting Kenya’s democracy..
Ambassador Groth spoke when he made his maiden courtesy call on Foreign Affairs Cabinet Secretary Raychelle Omamo on Tuesday.
“They discussed issues of mutual interest, including potential for enhancing Kenya-Germany relations in sustainable development, green energy and climate change, economic cooperation and people to people relations,” a statement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said on Tuesday.
The dispatch added that CS Omamo appreciated Germany’s offer to support Kenya’s youth empowerment agenda, especially vocational and technical training.
Germany was among countries in a joint statement by embassies and high commissions in Kenya on elections that commended Kenyans for participating in a peaceful election, the IEBC for its organisation of elections, and the civil society, religious and business leaders for their roles.
“Kenya has set an example to the region and continent as a whole. We call upon all actors to uphold the spirit of peace in the coming weeks,” the statement said.
The missions, which included Australia, Canada, Denmark, the Netherlands, Norway, Sweden, Switzerland, and the UK, urged Azimio coalition and its flagbearer Raila Odinga to use constitutional means in disputing the election.
Raila disputed the declaration of William Ruto as President-elect by IEBC chairman Wafula Chebukati, claiming the election was rigged. He has since petitioned the Supreme Court seeking the invalidation of Ruto’s election.
“We encourage all political parties and leaders to follow all existing mechanisms for dispute resolution, as laid out by the Constitution of Kenya,” they said.
